WHO ARE WE?
Founded in February 2008, the Scarborough Society of Musicians is a non-profit organization aimed at providing post-secondary school students who are not pursuing professional studies in music, an environment to continue developing and exploring their talents.
WHY ARE WE HERE?
Our mission is simple: to keep music alive. The Scarborough Society of Musicians is unique in that it caters to those who would like to be involved in music, but who may lack the time or competitiveness when compared with full-time music students and professional musicians. Although there are large numbers of students who are involved in high school music education programs, very few go on to pursue music in their post-secondary endeavours. Thus the musical experiences of many students end after graduating from secondary school.
OUR GOALS?
(a) to extend the high school musical experience by creating an environment where post-secondary students currently not studying music can continue to enjoy the benefits of participating in musical ensembles;
(b) to advocate the benefits and importance of music education and appreciation for the arts;
(c) and to develop a connection between the youth and the community through music.
